Tastes: Republic and Cones

After a long day of decorating and then coaching belly dancers, Layla Isis and Mariyah Elizabeth of Entelechy Dance, I met my fashion designer friend Chi Hu for dinner at Republic. We recommend the Asian Gimlet which combines the herbaceous tones of gin with muddled cucumber and lime. For appetizers vegatable dumplings and watercress salad were light and refreshing, and for entrees, peanut noodle salad and Pad Thai proved to be perfect picks for our vegetarian feast.


After a wonderful meal we decided to get lost in the West Village looking for ice cream. Chi is a vegetarian but NOT a vegan. He insists on ice cream after every dinner, even in the dead of winter. We ended up at Cones. One of the first places I ever had gelato in the Big Apple.

Really you should go.
